The Podcast

Two Tales and a Truth

Two tales and a truth from real people about where their business really stands with Ai — two polished versions, and the one truth that never makes the case study. We guess which is which, then unpack what actually happened: what worked, what failed, what they’d do differently.

  1. 01

    Two tall tales

Our guest picks two things about their Ai deployment that sound impressive — the wins that would usually make the case study.

  2. 02

    One truth

And one thing that’s the real, unvarnished story — the mistake, the vendor swap, the timeline that blew out.

  3. 03

    We guess, they reveal

We call it live, then dig into what actually happened, the numbers behind it, and what they’d do differently.

What We Do

We are all unique

Most Ai advice pushes a platform. We start with what your business is trying to achieve, and only reach for Ai — and only a specific tool — when it actually works and pays for itself.

Manufacturing

How one shop floor automated reporting.

Professional Services

A drafting assistant that saved hours.

Retail & Trades

Ai customer support without losing the human touch.

People & Planning

A clear-eyed look at where Ai can actually pay for itself in your business — and, just as importantly, where it can’t. No 12-month roadmaps.

Policy, Legal & Governance

A plain-English usage policy, plus the IP, data-privacy, and vendor-contract questions worth asking before you sign. Cheaper than damage control after.

Culture & Change

Ai does tasks. People do roles. We help you redesign the tasks, retrain the people, and bring your team with you through the change — not just hand them a new tool.

Cyber & Data Safety

MFA everywhere, a full inventory of every Ai tool in use, vendor security reviews before signup. You can’t secure what you don’t know exists.

Build, Deploy & Support

Product-agnostic — workflow automation, custom tooling, or off-the-shelf, whatever actually works. We build it, ship it into your live business, document the fallback, and stay on to keep it running.

Monthly Challenge

Not sure how Ai fits into your business? Tell us.

Every month we choose one submission and show — live, on the podcast — how we’d approach it. No fee, no obligation, just the real thinking out loud.

Tell Us

How We Think

People over product, always

Ai is just a tool. A useful one, but a tool — not a personality, not a strategy, not the only point.

01

Ai is a tool

Like a spreadsheet or a power drill, it doesn’t have intent. Useful when applied with purpose — not something to fear, and not something to chase for its own sake.

02

Ai does tasks

People do roles. We map where the human sits in every workflow — review, approve, override — and plan for what happens if the tool goes down tomorrow.

03

Small steps

Ai adoption is a change-management exercise with technology attached, not a tech rollout. We involve your team early and celebrate the small wins loudly.

04

Works. Delivers. Pays off.

Does it work under real conditions? Does it deliver what your business actually needs? Does it pay for itself? If we can’t say yes to all three, we don’t recommend it.

05

End to end

Policy, legal, culture, cyber, workflows, agents, deployment — we cover the whole picture, not just the flashy demo bit everyone else stops at.

06

We’re not a tech company

We’re practical business advisors who know Ai well. No jargon, no science project — straight answers in plain English, every time.

Our 8-part groundwork, before agentic Ai touches your business:

  1. 01

    People

Upskill your team, decide where a human has to stay in the loop, and deal with the pushback honestly.

  2. 02

    Planning

Start narrow, agree what success looks like, and don’t try to boil the ocean.

  3. 03

    Culture

Build enough trust that someone will actually tell you when the Ai gets it wrong.

  4. 04

    Governance

Decide who signs off, who’s accountable, and what happens if Ai acts without asking first.

  5. 05

    Security

Control who has access, test it safely before it goes live, and keep a record of what it did.

  6. 06

    Data

Clean, accessible data your Ai can actually work with — not a mess it has to guess around.

  7. 07

    Infrastructure

Someone watching it run, an undo button if it breaks, and it talks to the systems you already use.

  8. 08

    ROI

Know your starting point, measure as you go, and kill anything that’s just a pilot for its own sake.

Approved Suppliers

Thinking about a product or application?

We test Ai products, services, and applications to figure out how they actually perform in real-world environments. Make the grade, make the list.

01

The problem it solves

Does it fix a real problem you have — not just a clever demo.

02

Will they be there tomorrow?

Solvency, dependencies, and what happens to you if they don’t make it.

03

Product & service

What it’s actually like to run — not what the sales page promises.

04

Real-world results

Verified outcomes and reference-checkable customers — not hand-picked case studies.

The list launches alongside Season 1, once the vetting process above has actually run on real suppliers — there’s nothing to publish yet.

Questions

Before you book a call

We’re a small business, not a tech company — is Ai even worth it for us?

If your team spends real hours on repetitive, rules-based work — reporting, drafting, triage, data reconciliation — there’s usually a case. We work with small and medium businesses specifically, not enterprise IT departments. The call exists to tell you honestly if it isn’t worth it, with no pressure to proceed either way.

How do you actually measure ROI?

Before we build anything, we agree what “working” looks like in dollar or hour terms — time saved, errors reduced, revenue protected. If we can’t draw a straight line from the work to your bottom line, we say so and won’t recommend it.

Do you only recommend certain Ai platforms?

No — we’re product-agnostic. We recommend whatever actually works, delivers real benefit, and makes financial sense. If a spreadsheet does the job better than an Ai tool, we’ll tell you that too.

How long does an engagement actually take?

Discovery and design typically run 1–2 weeks. Deployment depends on scope — a single workflow automation can ship in weeks, not quarters. You’ll get a concrete timeline before anything is agreed.

What does it cost?

It depends on scope, so we won’t quote a number here that doesn’t apply to you. You’ll get a clear, itemised proposal after the call — no obligation to proceed.

Is our data safe?

We design around your existing systems and access controls rather than asking you to hand data to a third party wholesale — MFA on every platform, a full inventory of what’s in use, and a security review before you sign up with any vendor. You can’t secure what you don’t know exists, so that inventory comes first.

What happens if the Ai tool goes down?

We document the manual fallback for every workflow we build — who does what, and how the business keeps running — before we call it finished. If a subscription lapses or a tool gets deprecated, you shouldn’t grind to a halt.

Will this replace people on our team?

No — that’s not what we build. The point is to take repetitive work off skilled people so their judgment goes further, not to replace the judgment itself.

Our team is nervous about Ai — how do you handle that?

We treat it as change management with technology attached, not a tech rollout. That means involving your team early, being upfront about what will and won’t change about their role, and celebrating small wins publicly as we go.

Do suppliers have to appear on the podcast to be approved?

No. The podcast is about process, not product reviews — a tool coming up in a guest’s story doesn’t put it on the list. Every supplier goes through the same separate assessment, and paying us has never been a way to skip it.
